Q: What inspired you to start traveling, and what keeps you motivated to continue exploring new places at 83?

A: I can’t remember a time in my life that I didn’t want to travel, and once I retired, I took advantage of having more free time to travel more.

Q: How do you prepare for your trips? Are there any special routines or habits that help you stay fit and healthy while traveling?

A: I have always worked at staying in shape physically. I also usually choose trips that are active and so enable me to stay in shape even as I age.

Q: What has been your most memorable travel experience, and why did it stand out to you?

A: I can honestly say that each trip has been memorable in one way or another.  If I had to name any trips, it would be those I have gone on with my daughter or granddaughter.

Q: Can you share some tips for other seniors who might be hesitant to travel due to their age or health concerns?

A: The best tip I can give to other seniors is to find an excellent travel outfit that does a good job of organizing and providing travel that meets expectations.  One must also be honest with the outfit about any issues they might have.  An important thing to ascertain is how large the group size is for the trip being considered.

Q: How do you manage the physical and logistical challenges of traveling as an older adult?

A: I get as much information as possible about the possible challenges before deciding on the trip.  I have been fortunate to be strong and fit enough to continue choosing travel that offers the kinds of activities I enjoy.

Q: What destinations are still on your travel bucket list, and why do you want to visit them?

A: China is still on my list.  I want to find a trip that explores as much of that country as possible.  I would plan to be away for a month or 6 weeks.

Q: Have you noticed any changes in the way you travel now compared to when you were younger? If so, what adjustments have you made?

A: When I was younger, I planned my trips myself and did mostly solo ones.  At this point in my life, I like having someone else do the planning work.  I also enjoy having people to travel with....just not too many people!

Q: How has traveling influenced your outlook on life and your overall well-being?

A: Travel has given me insight in how others live their lives and whether adopting alternate practices can enhance my life.  I delight in meeting and getting to know other people.

Q: Do you have a favorite place you’ve visited multiple times, and what draws you back there?

A: I rarely visit the same place more than once.

Q: What advice would you give to younger travelers about making the most of their adventures?

A: Start now!  Do your research in what interests you and the means you are considering for following your interests.  Talk to other travelers.  Keep a record/journal!

Q: What inspired you to start traveling, and what keeps you motivated to continue exploring new places at 83?

A: I was a reader from a very early age and I believe the books I read sparked an interest in seeing the places I was reading about.

Q: Do you have any favorite wardrobe pieces that go with you on every trip because they are easy to pack and comfortable to wear?

A: I always bring my down jacket.  It is lightweight and can be squashed into a very small area to be brought out if it is chilly or used as a pillow when a nap is essential.  Traveling light is essential.
